AEHL U17 AAA Playoffs – Round 1 Recap

Round 1 of the AEHL U17 AAA Playoffs featured eight best-of-three series with teams battling for a spot in the second round and a chance to advance to the 2026 Provincial Championships in Spruce Grove. Several higher seeds held their ground, while a number of lower-seeded teams pulled off impressive upsets to keep their championship hopes alive.

CAC Canadians vs GPAC Storm

The CAC Canadians advanced with a two-game sweep over the GPAC Storm, opening the series with a 5–3 win in Game 1 before closing it out with a convincing 6–1 victory in Game 2.

PAC Saints vs MLAC Maple Leafs

The MLAC Maple Leafs delivered one of the round’s biggest upsets, defeating the PAC Saints in two games. MLAC earned a 6–3 win in Game 1 and followed it with a dominant 7–0 performance in Game 2 to secure their spot in the next round.

CAC Canadians and MLAC Maple Leafs will now meet in the second round, with a trip to the 2026 Provincial Championships in Spruce Grove on the line.

SSAC Bulldogs vs Fort Saskatchewan Rangers

The SSAC Bulldogs needed three games to advance past the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers. SSAC won Game 1 by a 3–2 score, dropped a tight 4–3 decision in Game 2, and then sealed the series with a strong 5–1 win in the decisive Game 3.

Sherwood Park Squires vs Lloydminster Lancers

The Lloydminster Lancers pulled off an upset over the Sherwood Park Squires, winning the series in two games. Lloydminster earned a 6–2 win in Game 1 before securing a 5–1 victory in Game 2 to move on.

SSAC Bulldogs and Lloydminster Lancers will now face off in Round 2 with a Provincial Championship berth at stake.

Red Deer Chiefs vs South East Tigers

The South East Tigers also recorded an upset, sweeping the Red Deer Chiefs. The Tigers opened the series with a 5–2 win in Game 1 and followed it up with a 2–0 shutout victory in Game 2 to advance.

Calgary Northstars vs Okotoks Oilers

The Calgary Northstars survived a pair of marathon games to defeat the Okotoks Oilers. The Northstars claimed Game 1 with a 3–2 triple overtime victory and then secured the series with a 5–4 overtime win in Game 2.

Calgary Northstars will now meet the South East Tigers in the second round for a spot at the Provincial Championships.

Calgary Bulls vs Airdrie Avalanche

The Airdrie Avalanche advanced with a two-game sweep of the Calgary Bulls, winning both games by identical 5–2 scores.

Calgary Flames vs Calgary Royals

The Calgary Royals battled back after dropping Game 1 to defeat the Calgary Flames in three games. The Royals responded with a 5–0 win in Game 2 and then captured the series with a 3–2 victory in Game 3.

Calgary Royals will now face the Airdrie Avalanche in the second round, with a Provincial Championship berth on the line.

Round 2 of the AEHL U17 AAA Playoffs begins Wednesday, March 18, with all games streamed live on FloHockey.
