AEHL’s Players of the Month – December 2024

After the conclusion of the second month of the 2024-25 Alberta Elite Hockey League season, the AEHL is proud to announce the following winners of Player of the Month for all eight divisions for the month of December. The league is also proud to announce this month’s recipient of the Humanitarian of the Month Award, Oscar Blackmore.

Humanitarian of the Month

Oscar BlackmoreAirdrie Lightning U13 AA

Oscar Blackmore, a goaltender for the Airdrie Lightning U13AA team, exemplifies dedication to helping others. Off the ice, he has shown a strong commitment to giving back to his community by participating in his team’s food drives to support the Airdrie Food Bank. Each week, with a budget provided by his parents, Oscar goes grocery shopping for items to contribute to the team’s collection. He helps count and sort the donations and volunteers to deliver them to the food bank alongside his teammates. Together, the team has donated over 350 items, totalling more than 400 pounds! Oscar looks forward to February 26, when he and his teammates will assist food bank staff. In addition to his contributions off the ice, Oscar also enjoys giving back on the ice. He has donated his time to mentor younger and less experienced goaltenders within the Airdrie hockey community. Oscar embodies the spirit of humanitarianism, and his efforts, both on and off the ice, are making a positive impact on his community.  


Players of the Month 

U18 

AAA – Jac CarliCalgary Cannex Buffaloes – G  (4GP, 2.25GAA, .936SV%) 

Jac had an outstanding December, leading his team to a perfect 4-0 record, including a shutout victory on December 7th. His strong play has helped the Buffaloes climb the standings. His ability to make timely saves and handle the puck, instills confidence in his teammates and provides a calming presence during high-pressure moments. With an impressive 2.25 goals against average and a 0.936 save percentage, Jac is a key asset to his team and a deserving Player of the Month. 

AA North Metro – Justin OuelletteSt. Albert Crusaders – G  (3GP, 1.67GAA, .956SV%) 

In December, Justin had an outstanding campaign, winning all three of his starts and helping the Crusaders hold their position at the top of the Regional Division standings. He allowed only five goals on 91 shots during the month, making him a crucial contributor to the Crusaders’ success. As a result, he earned the title of Player of the Month. 

AA North Rural – Myles HicksNorthwest Hockey Club – F  (5GP, 2G, 2A, 4P) 

In December, Myles emerged as a key leader on a young team, showcasing his commitment on and off the ice. He led by example and made significant contributions to the scoresheet, registering two goals and two assists in just five games. His performance and positive influence have made him a true role model for his teammates. 

AA South – Sawyer CampbellOlds Grizzlys – F  (5GP, 5G, 4A, 9P) 

Sawyer Campbell has been an outstanding offensive force for the Olds Grizzlys U18 AA team, continuing to elevate his performance in December following a strong showing in November. In league play, Sawyer demonstrated exceptional scoring and playmaking abilities, tallying five goals and four assists in just five games. During the AEHL Christmas break, he further displayed those skills, leading the Bow Valley ‘Running with the Wolves’ AA tournament in both goals and total points, with four goals and four assists in four games. Sawyer’s dynamic offensive contributions and leadership make him an exemplary candidate for the Player of the Month award. 

AA Calgary – Evan PeterCNHA Gold – F  (7GP, 6G, 2A, 8P) 

Evan emerged as a standout player for CNHA Gold in December, leading on the scoresheet and serving as an inspirational leader on and off the ice. His positive attitude and relentless work ethic have helped drive the team to a 4-2 record in December. Notably, he enjoyed a three-game goal streak, kicking it off with a hat-trick performance in a win against West Central. In his leadership role, he became an extension of the coaching staff, ensuring his teammates were prepared, dragging everyone into the game and elevating his teammate’s performance.  


U17/16 

AAA – Jadon FischerPAC Saints – F (6GP, 6G, 5A, 11P) 

Returning from injury in December, Jadon immediately made an impact on the ice with a remarkable four-game goal-scoring streak, which included a standout performance where he scored four points in one game. His offensive prowess not only highlighted his skills but also reinvigorated the team’s dynamics, marking a significant comeback and solidifying his position as a key player for the team this season. 

AA North Metro – Benjamin OwzcarekKC Spurs – D (7GP, 2G, 4A, 6P) 

Throughout December, Benjamin was a solid anchor on the back end, showcasing poise and reliability while maintaining a plus-six rating. He also contributed offensively with two multi-point performances. Off the ice, Ben is a true leader, setting an example with his dedication and sportsmanship. His performance and attitude make him an outstanding candidate for this recognition. 

AA North Rural – Nathan GhostkeeperTRAC Wolverines – D (6GP, 4A, 4P) 

Nathan showcased his skills with an impressive three-point performance, highlighting his offensive capabilities. Known for being defensively responsible, he consistently logs significant minutes on the ice playing in all situations. Nathan’s exceptional work ethic in games and practices makes him a coach’s dream, contributing to his team’s success. 

AA Calgary – Che ChauCRAA Gold – G (3GP, 1.50GAA, .981SV%) 

Che had three outstanding performances in December, securing wins against all three Calgary teams, including a remarkable 33-save shutout. He proved to be a steady force for the Royals in a competitive division. Che made crucial saves that protected leads and kept his team in contention during key moments. His focus and composure under pressure contributed significantly to the team’s success. Che’s leadership off the ice and calming presence in the locker room fostered confidence among his teammates, promoting a strong commitment to team defence. 


U15 

AAA – Madden SmithPAC Saints – F (4GP, 3G, 5A, 8P) 

Madden’s consistency as a player is a significant reason for the Saints success in December. He excels in all situations and elavates the performance of his teammates. As a driver for his team he engages in the battle during each shift. His contributions were instrumental in the Saints capturing three wins in their last four games, which has improved their standings and positioned them for a playoff spot. 

AA North Metro – Jacob HoreCAC Imperial Equities – F (5GP, 3G, 6A, 9P) 

Jacob has grown as a leader on and off the ice, elevating his performance in December. He played a pivotal role in his team’s success, accumulating nine points in five games. He helped his team secure vital points by registering three multi-point games, allowing them to rise to second place in the Capital Division. 

AA North Rural – Jake RuttanWainwright Polar Kings – F (7GP, 8G, 6A, 14P) 

In December, Jake contributed in a big way for his team, both on and off the ice, by demonstrating strong leadership. He had four consecutive multiple-point games, scoring a total of seven goals during that stretch, which helped lead the team to four straight victories. In addition to his offensive output, Jake also played an important role defensively during crucial moments in tight games, further aiding his team’s success in December. 

AA South – Nolan HardyOlds Grizzlys – D (4GP, 2G, 3A, 5P) 

Nolan has been a key member of the Grizzlys’ backend this season. As an assistant captain, he is a tremendous leader on the ice and in the dressing room. Although the Grizzlys faced a challenging four-game stretch in December, Nolan performed well, recording two goals and five points. Additionally, he played exceptionally well during the KIBIHT tournament in Kamloops over Christmas, contributing to the team’s advancement to the quarterfinals. 

AA Calgary – Chase CollensCBHA Rangers – F (5GP, 10G, 7A, 17P) 

Chase, the captain of his team, is a leader both on and off the ice. He had an exceptional month in December, scoring 10 goals and collecting 17 points over five games. This stretch included two remarkable performances, with Chase recording five points in each game and scoring a hat trick in each. 


U13 

AAA – Sebastian MorganFort McMurray Jr. Oil Barons – F (3GP, 10G, 7A, 17P) 

In December, Sebastian proved to be an exceptional leader for the Barons. Consistently looking to improve, his dedication to the game cannot be matched. Sebastian led his team with 17 points in three games, including an impressive nine-point game to conclude 2024. His outstanding play contributed to the Barons rise in the standings, positioning them as one of the top teams in the division. 

AA North Metro – Colson ShieldsMLAC Pursuit of Motion Physio – F (6GP, 6G, 3A, 9P) 

In December, Colson emerged as a pivotal player, making contributions on both the offensive and defensive sides of the puck, which played a crucial role in the team’s success. His outstanding performances helped the Leafs secure victories in 3 out of 4 games during the month, with Colson notably collecting three points in each matchup. His all-around excellence on the ice has bolstered the team’s morale and solidified his status as a key player to watch moving forward. 

AA North Rural – Krew KehlerTRAC Wolverines – F (5GP, 5G, 5A, 10P) 

After being named captain for his outstanding leadership and dedication, Krew has showcased his exceptional skills on the ice, collecting points in all but one game throughout the month. His impressive performance includes two multipoint games, which have been crucial in helping the team maintain their grip on second place in the North division. Krew’s hard work and determination, both on and off the ice, have not only inspired his teammates but also solidified his reputation as a top player in the league. 

AA South – Wesley WiestAirdrie Lightning – F (6GP, 9G, 8A, 17P) 

Wesley rose to the occasion while facing a demanding December schedule, playing some of the top-end teams in the Central division. His offensive contribution directly correlates to his refusal to give up on plays, his knowledge of how to play without the puck, and his immense understanding of D-Zone coverage. Wiest provides solid low support, understands the importance of timing and patience on the breakout, and can accelerate out of his zone, creating high-danger scoring chances off the rush. Wesley’s ability to cycle and distribute the puck in the offensive zone makes him versatile and difficult to defend. During the six games through December, Wesley put up 17 points. Three of his nine goals came as game-winners. With a team looking for answers, Airdrie’s Captain, Wesley, took it upon himself to lead his team in the right direction and elevated his game in hopes that others would follow. Through December, Airdrie would snap their four-game losing streak and trade it for a seven-game winning streak to end the calendar year. Wesley’s contributions, effort, consistency and attitude set the tone for himself and the Lightning moving into the new year.  

AA Calgary – Dylan LavalleeCNHA Gold – G (4GP, 1.68GAA, .952SV%) 

Dylan finished the month with four wins and one loss, posting a goals-against average of 1.68 and a save percentage of .952. He has established himself as one of the top goalies in the U13AA division. His leadership and performance have helped propel CNHA Gold to the top of the Calgary Division.
