The Alberta ‘AAA’ Midget Hockey League held its Annual All Star Game and Skills Competition this past weekend in Strathmore, Alberta home of the UFA Bisons. On Saturday evening the skill competition was held, which was a first for the league, between the competing Dodge and Chrysler Division teams.
The fastest skater was Jordan Kochan from the CAC Gregg Distributors team, he edged out Edmonton Oil King prospect Mark Pysyk by .12 of a second in the final. Another member of the CAC team Burke Gallimore fired the hardest shoot of the night with a speed of 139 km/hr. The Dodge Division also won the shootout. The Chrysler Division then took over and won the relay race as well as the target shooting. The Dodge then rebounded to win the timed shootout event to claim the overall skills competition by a score of 7 to 4.
Sunday afternoon in a highly entertaining contest, before 989 fans, the Team Source for Sports from the Chrysler Division reversed the result by drubbing Team Easton from the Dodge Divison 7 to 1. Evan Warner, the games first star, a member of the Calgary Royals lead the charge with 2 goals and 1 assist. This was the South Divisions 8th victory in the history of the event. The second star was Lethbridge Y’s Men Titans Goaltender Drew Owsley who held the Team Easton scoreless for the first 30 minutes of the game. Mark Pysyk a member of the Sherwood Park J. Ennis Kings was the games third star for his outstanding effort in potting the Dodge Divisions lone marker. All three stars received gifts from the Western Hockey League and the Source for Sports Dealers of Alberta.
