AEHL’s Players of the Month – October 2024

After the conclusion of the first full month of the 2024-25 Alberta Elite Hockey League season, the AEHL is proud to announce the following winners of Player of the Month for all eight divisions, including their new U13 AAA pilot division and new AA divisions. The league is also proud to announce this month’s recipient of the Humanitarian of the Month Award, Keegan Bold.

Humanitarian of the Month

Keegan BoldCBHA Hawks U16 AA

After a family member cancer diagnosis, Keegan Bold has gone above and beyond to support families navigating their own challenges of illness. He has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House multiple times, where he prepares meals for families who are staying there while their children receive treatment. Keegan has also dedicated himself to raising money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital, channeling his energy into fundraising efforts that have provided crucial support for medical care and resources. Keegan’s actions have not only made a direct impact but have also inspired those around him to do the same, proving that even in the face of personal challenges, it is possible to create positive change.

Players of the Month

U18

AAA – Ethan Berard (Edm Jr. Oilers Blue – G) (4GP, 1.75 GAA, .933 GAA)

In what is one of the most competitive divisions in the province, there are no easy nights to be a U18 AAA goaltender, yet Ethan Berard has risen to the occasion in all four starts in October, posting a perfect 4-0-0 record. His play has been the backbone of the Oilers Blue hot start, establishing them as the #2 team in the North Division. Berard will look to maintain his #1 position in GAA in U18 AAA through a tough November schedule.

AA North Rural – Kysin Bear (Lloydminster Blazers – F) (2G, 2A, 4P, 6GP)

The third-year resident of Onion Lake has been an integral part of setting a culture to build off in Lloydminster, tabbed as a supremely coachable and a player willing to do whatever it takes for the team. His leadership has already earned him the interest of the Vermilion Tigers, as well as the respect of his fellow teammates.

AA North Metro – Cooper Allan (SSAC Don Wheaton – F) (4G, 1A, 5P, 6GP)

Cooper has been counted on to bring a high level of compete to SSAC Don Wheaton and game-in-game-out he has delivered. With 4 goals in October, the third-year player refused to take the easy route, scoring two while his team was shorthanded.

AA South – Jake Murdoch (East Kootenay Avalanche – F) (9G, 12A, 21P, 10GP)

10 games in 30 days to start the season can be an easy way to start behind the eight-ball. Thanks in part to the 200-foot efforts of Jake Murdoch, East Kootenay currently sits atop the South Division Standings nearly a third of the way through their regular season games. Murdoch averaged over two points a game through the Avalanche’s gruelling start to the season, and his leadership has the team positioned well moving into November.

AA Calgary – Owen Bon-Bernard (CNHA Black – F) (9G, 1A, 10P, 7GP)

Owen leads the CNHA Black team in points through the first month of the season, scoring two hat-tricks in just seven games. An affiliate to U18 AAA, he added an assist in two games at the next level, proving he’s a force to be reckoned with every time he laces up his skates.

U17/U16

AAA – Landon Ward (Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes – F) (10G, 3A, 13P, 6GP)

Landon has proven to be an offensive threat in the first month of the U17 AAA season, erupting for five goals in one night on October 26. Despite his offensive prowess, Landon is constantly working to round out his two-way game and helping the Headwater Hurricanes climb up the U17 AAA standings.

AA North Rural – Miller Beck (Fort Sask. Rangers – F) (4G, 4A, 8P, 4GP)

Miller’s efforts were enough to average a goal and an assist per game in October, including a game winner, keeping the Fort Sask Rangers well within striking distance in a tightly contested Rural Conference. Quick to establish himself as a leader, Miller has been rewarded with affiliation to U17 AAA and skates nearly daily between his two teams.

AA North Metro – Ryder Pittman (SPKAC Tahk Projects Senators – F) (1G, 0A, 1P, 5GP)

In his first season of AA Hockey, Pittman has been relied on to set the tone with his outstanding work ethic. He has already taken leaps and bounds in his first month of action, absorbing any bit of advice dropped his way and applying it to his game. Look for Pittman to break out offensively soon.

AA South – Kyler Olsen (Okotoks Oilers – G) (3GP, 2.00 GAA, .915 SV%)

Olsen strung together two wins in three starts in October, allowing just 2 goals on 46 shots in his last two games of the month. His momentum carried forward into his first November start as well, where he stopped 42 of 44 shots, to lead his team to yet another victory. The current GAA leader of the South will look to keep his momentum going as part of a dynamic pairing with Tyce D’Agnone.

AA Calgary – Brady Schneider (CBHA Hawks – F) (6G, 3A, 9P, 8GP)

In a very competitive Calgary Division, Brady Schneider has been tapped to lead the CBHA Hawks as their captain, and through October he has delivered. Despite nine points in eight games, Brady’s greatest contribution has been his ability to inspire and rally his teammates, doing his part to ensure the Hawks are focused on the task at hand every time they take the ice.

U15

AAA – Ben Oliverio (Calgary Northstars – F) (10G, 8A, 18P, 8GP)

Ben leads the Northstars team on and off the ice. He is a well rounded player scoring 10 goals and 8 assists over 8 games. He plays in all situations both offensively and defensively as well as on the PP and PK. Ben was also awarded First Team All-Star at the Red Deer Fall Classic Tournament during the month of October.

AA North Rural – Eli Molyneaux (Strathcona Warriors – G) (3GP, 1.00 GAA, .963SV%)

The Stony Plain product had something to prove in his first month of U15 AA action stopping 78 of 81 shots in three full games. His .963 save percentage is good for first in the province amongst U15 AA goaltenders and he’s capped it all off by being an outstanding teammate.

AA North Metro – Taylor Mowbray (KC Shamrocks – F) (7G, 4A, 11P, 7GP)

The first-year U15 AA player has demonstrated maturity beyond his years through one month with KC, leading the team in points with 11 while establishing himself equally as one of the most reliable defensive forwards on the team. Avoid visits to the penalty box vs the Shamrocks: Mowbray has found the back of the net four times on the powerplay already this season.

AA South – Kallen Knutson (Olds Grizzlys – F) (8G, 7A, 15P, 9GP)

Tied for the conference lead in scoring, the feather in Knutson’s cap to start the season was being named captain of the Olds Grizzlys U15 AA team. Together with his teammate and fellow 15 point scorer Beau Millard, Knutson will continue to try and lead the Grizz’ and maintain their status atop the Central division.

AA Calgary – Logan Grant (CNHA Green – D) (2G, 5A, 7P, 6GP)

Logan has stood out this season for both his play as a defenseman and leadership, resulting in him being named Captain of CNHA Green. His efforts to welcome first year players to the team have established a strong culture within the squad, and his on ice production has him tied for second amongst defence in the Calgary Conference.

U13

AAA – Benjamin Kalinocka (MLAC Trusted Trades – F) (2G, 3A, 5P, 8GP)

As the first U13 AAA captain in the historic MLAC program’s history, Kalinocka has combined consistent offense with exceptional leadership on and off the ice. The tone Ben has set is being embraced by his teammates, who have carried MLAC Trusted Trades to third place in the standings.

AA North Rural – Hunter Bahm (FSJ Flyers – F) (12G, 14A, 26P, 7GP)

Armed with a lethal release, Hunter averaged nearly four points a game in the month of October. His FSJ Flyers find themselves 5-1-1 in a highly offensive Rural North Division and will continue to rely on Bahm to lead the offensive attack into November.

AA North Metro – Kane Reimer (SPKAC Steel Kings – D) (6G, 0A, 6P, 6GP)

Don’t expect to spend much time in the Steel Kings defensive zone while Kane Reimer is on the ice. The U13 AAA affiliate has found the back of the next at a goal-a-game clip in October, good for first place amongst defence. Eager to prove he’s not just a shooter, Reimer recently produced a four assist game to boot in his first November action.

AA South – Reed Horvath (Dolman Dental Central Alberta Selects – F) (9G, 8A, 17P, 6GP)

Anyone questioning whether the saying, ‘you practice like you play and you play like you practice,’ is true just needs to watch Reed Horvath. The Blackfalds recruit has seen his consistent practice efforts translate into nearly 3 points per game on average, keeping his team in contention in the highly offensive Central Division.

AA Calgary – Jake Sander (CRAA White – F) (9G, 6A, 15P, 6GP)

The U13AA Calgary Conference point leader for the month of October has established himself as an offensive threat, while improving steadily on his defensive responsibilities. Sander supports other players, is a great teammate and has become a tremendous leader within the locker room, equaling a third place position in the standings for CRAA White, the best of the three teams in the Royals Quadrant.
