AEHL U17 AAA Post-Season Preview

RED DEER – The AEHL U17 AAA Division is set to drop the puck on the 2025 Playoffs, with sixteen of the league’s twenty teams competing for the championship title. Three of the eight first-round matchups are set to start Wednesday, March 12; the remaining series kick off the following day.  

The NWCAA Flames were the league’s best team, with a record of 25-7-1-1 and 52 points, edging out the Red Deer Chiefs by one point. The Flames shared the league-best goal differential with SPKAC Squires, with each team having a +62. The Squires finished second place in the north division behind CAC Canadians. Although both the Squires and the Canadians had 47 points, the Canadians held a superior record of 22-9-1-2. 

FINAL STANDINGS 


Gavin Wrathall of the Okotoks Oilers led the league in total points with 51, followed by SPKAC Squires players Rhett Lloyd and Micah Thiessen, who both finished with 46 points. MLAC forward Jack Langill was the top goal scorer, finding the back of the net 27 times in 34 games. MLAC goaltender Taylor Raynard had an outstanding season, finishing as the league leader in both goals against average (1.98) and save percentage (.940). Additionally, there was a four-way tie for the most wins, with Joseph Naccarato of the St. Albert Flyers, Peyton Felzmann of the Calgary Flames, Grady Gardiner of the Red Deer Chiefs, and Kayd Mercier of CAC Canadians each recording 13 wins this season.
