The Alberta Elite Hockey League is pleased to announce Lucas Magowan (Calgary Buffaloes – U18 AAA), Kael Screpnek (Calgary Royals – U17 AAA), and Carter Hillaby (CAC Volvo of Edmonton – U15 AAA) as the Source for Sports Players of the Month for January.
U18 AAA – Lucas Magowan (Defence – Calgary Buffaloes)
Calgary Buffaloes captain Lucas Magowan put together a strong month of January, recording nine points in ten games, bringing his total to 27 points in 36 games, which is tied for fifth in the league amongst defencemen. Lucas’ strong play has helped propel the Buffaloes to first place in the South Division.
U17 AAA – Kael Screpnek (Forward – Calgary Royals)
Kael Screpnek, forward for the Calgary Royals, had a phenomenal month of January as he recorded at least one point in every game except for one. Throughout the month, Kael recorded 13 points in seven games, including a four-point game on January 15. Kael and the Royals are currently in a heated battle for second place in the South Division.
“Our nomination this month was Kael because of his hard work ethic and perfect effort day in and day out. Whether at practice or games, he’s comes to work and improve every day. He’s been our driver for our team in the month of January and has been growing in his leadership role with the team on and off the ice,” said Head Coach Jon Petrash.
U15 AAA – Carter Hillaby (Forward – CAC Volvo of Edmonton)
CAC forward Carter Hillaby recorded a six-game point streak in January, five of which were multi-point games. Throughout the month, he totaled six goals and six assists for a total of 12 points, which brought him to 34 points in 30 games played this season.
“He has been out on ice and off ice leader all month. He has pushed all our players to raise their standard of performance. Not only has he been great in league play, but we also played in the John Reid this month where he did the same thing for our team both on and off the ice there too,” said CAC Head Coach Nick Trudeau.
